VERBAL AND PHYSICAL CELEBRATION
Our nervous system is a fascinating part of being human. Information and stimuli flow from the nerves in our body through the spinal cord and then into the brain. Once the brain receives this information, it processes it and responds. There is therefore a two-way, wired connection between your body and your brain. When you have an awesome day, one way to celebrate is to put yourself into a positive posture such as raising your hands in victory.
This may sound uncomfortable or downright silly to you, but don’t count it out just yet. You know that your physical posture affects how others perceive you; now, you must also understand that your posture affects how you see yourself. A positive pose, posture, or movement sends a strong message to your mind. Let’s practice right now. Pick one of these three celebratory body movements and do it for at least thirty seconds:
Double Fist Pump: This is the classic pose you see when sprinters cross the finish line with both hands raised and perhaps a repetitive pumping action of the fists for emphasis.
The Superhero: Take a wide stance and place your hands or fists on your waist. Hold your head high with your chest out.
Jumping and Hollering: Adding a vocal component to your celebration just feels right sometimes. On a particularly wonderful day, I like to jump up and down and whoop it up!
